The founder of Kesari newspaper was Bal Gangadhar Tilak, also known as Lokmanya Tilak. He launched the newspaper in 1881 in Pune, India. Kesari became a popular Marathi language daily publication that focused on Indian nationalism and independence from British rule. Tilak used the newspaper as a platform to spread his ideas of swadeshi (buying Indian-made products) and swaraj (self-rule). He also used the newspaper to criticize British policies, including their education system, and to promote Indian culture and traditions. Kesari became an important part of the Indian independence movement and played a significant role in mobilizing public opinion against British rule. Tilak continued to run the newspaper until his death in 1920, and it continued to be published until 1960.
